UES's GreenWatts program gives you a way to invest directly in the creation of "green" power. For each "GreenWatt" you adopt, UES will create 20 kilowatt hours of electricity per month from renewable energy resources. Your contributions will support efforts to produce power from the sun, wind, and other renewable energy sources.

Every 10 GreenWatts adopted saves a ton of coal per year!

Frequently asked questions

If I sign up for the GreenWatts program, when will the membership charges appear on my UES bill?
Your membership will start at the beginning of your next billing cycle, and the charges will first appear on the bill received following the end of that billing cycle.

How much does a GreenWatt cost?
You'll pay $2 a month to sponsor a single GreenWatt; each additional GreenWatt costs $1.50 per month. Your GreenWatts adoption will appear as a line item on your UES monthly statement.

Why should I adopt a GreenWatt?
The GreenWatts program provides much-needed funding for renewable power projects. Our community benefits from the improved air quality as a result of solar installations. UES guarantees that all funds collected from the GreenWatts program will support efforts to produce power from the sun, wind, and other renewable energy sources. These facilities will reduce our need to burn coal, gas or other traditional fuels to generate electricity, providing benefits to Arizona's environment. In addition, you'll enjoy the pride and satisfaction of joining a group of corporations and individuals that is taking action to improve the environment for your family and future generations of Arizona residents.

Are GreenWatts charges one-time charges or continuing, month-to-month charges?
Once you've adopted a GreenWatt, the cost will appear on each month's bill. You can end your participation in the GreenWatts program at any time.

How is GreenWatts related to solar energy?
GreenWatts gives UES customers a chance to become our partner in building and operating new solar power generators. For now, solar power is more expensive than energy generated from coal, gas or other traditional fuels. Investing in solar generation today will help make the technology more affordable and more widely used in years to come.

GreenWatts also offers an affordable way for people to show their support for the environment. The high cost of solar electric energy conversion equipment prevents many people from investing in solar power on their own. GreenWatts lets customers pitch in to make solar electric generation affordable for everyone and a viable portion of UES's generation mix.

Do I have to join GreenWatts if I am a UES customer?
No. GreenWatts is entirely a voluntary program for people who want to make a difference in improving the environment.

If I choose to adopt a GreenWatt, can I quit anytime?
Yes. If you choose to discontinue your adoption, it will be terminated at the end of your current billing cycle. You can resume your membership later without a waiting period.

Is the GreenWatts program currently benefiting UES energy consumers?
When you enroll in GreenWatts, you won't receive more electricity generated from renewable energy than your neighbors. Instead, your contributions help improve the environment for your entire community. Only GreenWatts supporters get the satisfaction of knowing they're doing something to improve the environment and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

How does UES spend money raised through the GreenWatts program?
Dollars raised through the GreenWatts program will be used to support efforts to produce power from the sun, wind, and other solar energy sources. Until UES can establish its own sources of renewable energy, a portion of GreenWatts contributions will be used to purchase green power "credits" from sources including Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP), UES's sister company.

How will I know that adopting a GreenWatt is contributing to improving the environment?
Visit uesaz.com regularly for updates on how your contributions are improving the environment through new and existing renewable energy projects. UES will submit a semi-annual report to the Arizona Corporation Commission detailing our use of GreenWatts funds. That report will be available on uesaz.com as well.
