Pool Pump Rebate

Save energy and lower your bill.

Replacing your swimming pool pump with a more efficient unit could help lower your electric bill.

Effective Oct. 31, 2014, UES will no longer accept applications for the Pool Pump Rebate program. All installations and applications must be submitted online no later than the effective date.

If you own a pool, you know it consumes a lot of energy.

The installation of variable-speed pool pumps can save pool owners energy and money. Variable-speed pool pumps offer high efficiency motors with multiple speeds for a variety of applications including cleaning, filtering and heating. They are more durable and offer better performance and water filtration than single-speed pumps. Contact your pool professional to learn more.

Variable-speed pumps improve on single-speed pumps in several ways. They:
  • Save up to 60% on pool pump energy costs, paying for themselves in two to three years.
  • Are more efficient, quieter, and are gentle on the environment.
  • Help reduce maintenance.
  • Run at the most efficient speed for each operation.

UniSource Energy Services (UES) has identified swimming pool pumps as an opportunity for energy efficiency and savings. Inefficient pool pumps are a significant waste of energy and therefore a prime target for replacement with newer, more energy efficient models. While energy efficient pool pumps may initially cost more, customers will see a return on their investment through significant energy savings over the life of the unit.

Energy efficient pool pumps are available with motors that have a variety of speeds. These types of pumps give you the option of pumping water at very low speeds to conserve energy, or at higher speeds to clean your pool quickly. By running the pool pump slowly for a longer period of time, the pool gets cleaner while using less energy.

When using the lower speed of the variable speed pool pumps, the water moves slower and reduces friction in the system piping. Reduced friction decreases back pressure in the system. As a result, the pump motor works less. A motor that works less uses less energy, and it takes less energy to keep water moving in a pool after the pump has been started, rather than starting and stopping the pump.  No matter what kind of pump is being used, slower pump speeds save energy. They also dramatically reduce the noise level associated with traditional pool pumps and reduce wear on not only the pump itself but also on filters, heaters, chlorinators and other equipment that water flows through.

Any residential customer that has an electric account with UNISOURCE ENERGY SERVICES and an in-ground swimming pool in UES territory is eligible. The rebate is good for both retrofit and new construction swimming pool pumps.

Ask a sales representative at any of these participating retailers listed under the Suppliers tab. They will show you the various models that qualify for the UES rebate. Any brand of variable speed swimming pool pump is eligible. The control's default circulation speed setting shall be no more than one-half of the motor's maximum rotation rate. Any high speed override capability shall be for a temporary period not to exceed one 24-hour cycle without resetting to default settings.
