UniSource Energy Services is giving away hundreds of free shade trees at springtime community events as part of the Trees for You program.
UES offers rebates on trees to customers through the Trees for You program to increase their communities’ supply of trees, which help customers save energy by shading buildings, streets and cars.
“The program provides many benefits for our customers and the environment that include conserving energy, increasing comfort from the cooling air and reducing radiant heat,” said Nikole White, Program Manager of Energy Services, who oversees the Trees for You program.
On April 21-23, a limited number of free shade trees will be available at the Home and Garden Business Expo at the Mohave County Fairgrounds in Kingman.
Previously this spring, UES experts handed out free netleaf hackberry and Arizona rosewood trees at the Colorado River Building Industry Association 35th Annual Home Show in Lake Havasu City. Chinese elm trees were given to customers at the Santa Cruz County World Autism Awareness Day Celebration in Nogales.
Throughout the year, UES customers can receive rebates of up to $15 for each qualified, desert-adapted shade tree purchased from retailers.
UES electric customers whose homes were built before 1980 can qualify for rebates for up to four trees per year. Customers in newer homes can request rebates for up to two trees per year. The trees must be five gallons or larger.

In 2016, UES distributed 1,200 trees to help expand shade in its territories.
